You would hardly think that this was the same 2 teams playing each other this week. Eldene started brightly enough but Bassett looked very sharp and really wanted it today. They worked extremely hard and had us on the back foot until they scored after 20 minutes as we didn't clear our lines well enough again. After that Eldene just didn't click and our passing game went right out the window as we attempted big long balls which caught on the wind most of the time resulting in an easy pick up for their keeper. Very frustrating to watch in the bitterly cold wind and rain and although it must have been tough for the players, Bassett made the most of it and they were unfortunate not to add to the score before half time. 1-0 to Bassett at the break.
The second half saw Eldene playing in to the wind and we found it very tough going. Bassett soon had us reeling after they caught us napping twice to go 3-0 up. The yellows looked devoid of ideas at times today and we persisted with the long ball which Bassett simply snuffed out to hit us on the break. One bright spot when we actually tried to pass saw Mabick finish off a good move with a shot which trickled in after a deflection for 3-1. But Bassett had the last word as they again made better use of the ball in the conditions and finished us off with another goal for 4-1. Eldene looked absolutely drained after that and but for some good defending we could easily have conceded more. Final score 4-1 to Bassett and they thoroughly deserved it. Well boys we all know that the weather was bad but that's not really an excuse for the performance. We will have to play much better if we're to climb the table. Time to reflect on where we went wrong and hopefully put it right in 2 weeks.
Man of the Match : Jack Wenlock ( Another top performance in the centre of defence. And kept the score respectable after everyone else's heads had dropped. Well played !! )
